Hi my name is Donna Hansman; I am a mother of 5 children, 3 daughters, 2 sons and a grandmother of 13, 8 grandsons and 5 granddaughters. About 2 years ago my mom’s Alzheimer’s progressed to the stage that she could no longer care for herself or be left alone, so I had mom move in with me. I had to find a way of earning a living from home so that I could be with mom. I had 1 poodle T. C. LOVE A WARM BROWN PUPPY is her name (the T.C. stands for travel companion). Love was my travel companion, we covered 5 states selling to the lumber and paper mill industry, and my truck engine ran constantly, so that she would be comfortable summer and winter. Love was my only house dog for 7 years. I decided that since I had always loved dog breeding I would buy some Tiny Toy Poodles and Teacup Poodles and become a full time Tiny Toy and Teacup Poodle Breeder. To me there is no greater miracle than the miracle of birth, and no greater excitement than seeing what color and sex the new arrivals will be. My dogs are all housedogs and the adults sleep in bed with me (thank God for king-sized beds). The Tiny Toy Poodle Puppies and Teacup Poodle Puppies are born in my bedroom, and stay there until they are about 8 weeks old. They then go to the puppy room. They are loved and cared for, and played with by my mom, my children, my grandchildren, and myself. The Tiny Toy Poodle Puppies and Teacup Poodle Puppies spend at least an hour 3 times a day running free in the house. They learn to use potty pads and doggie doors and to get along with other dogs and people. Many of the adult dogs are put in a different room for the puppies’ safety. OK, OK! So why name your kennel Swamp Rats when the adorable little pups (hopefully) don’t resemble swamp rats at all and are even much smaller than most swamp rats? I guess that I just "listen to the beat of a different drummer" and I thought that it was a cute name. I owe many thanks to Janet at Velvet Touch Kennels. She was kind enough to teach my granddaughter and me how to dock tails and remove dew claws, she even let us do some of her puppy tails and dew claws to make sure we felt comfortable doing them. She has the smallest best quality studs that I have seen, and I intend to use them for most of my females. I have 1 stud from Jacklyn’s Exquisite Poodles that was supposed to be a Micro Teacup and got to be 4lbs 10 oz. I have used him once, and I got 1 Teacup and 1 Tiny Toy. He is so sweet and loveable, I call him my elbow dog, and he sits at my left elbow in bed. Katrina has temporarily displaced us and we are in Alabama until we can rebuild or buy a new home .We all got out the day before she hit and I am very thankful for that! We lost everything! Mom, 23 dogs, and I in 4 feet of water with 5 holes in the roof from fallen trees would not have been fun at all! |
